Goal Review

I know most of us don’t set new year's resolutions.  We’ve talked about it before, it’s a lot of build up and not a lot of follow through.  I know that Goal Setting is something a lot of us shy away from.  For various reasons, Goal Setting, or verbalizing our goals, isn’t a driving force.  I also know that for a lot of us the goal is to just be consistent, keep training and not let our nutrition fall off the rails. This is a good place to start and I think each of us, if we allow ourselves, can dig a little deeper. 

For this post, we’ll break it down into two groups, people that already train with us and people that don’t. 

If you train with us, we’re 5 months into the training year, how has it been going?  What are your successes, what are your struggles?  We’ve seen nine benchmark workouts and the first two stages of the season.  Each of the benchmarks has tested something a little different.  We’ve done all Barbell ones, both light and heavy-(ish).  We’ve done all Gymnastic ones, high volume and capacity testing.  We’ve tested cardio and stamina, long workouts and potentially short ones.  What do you need to work on?

If you don’t train with us, how has your training been going the last 5 months, where are you succeeding, where are you struggling? Have you looked back at the the goals you’ve set for yourself to check in?

These next four weeks are a great time to take an inventory and assess how your training and nutrition have been going and set up your next steps for the year.  Fitness can sometimes feel like an all or nothing kinda thing.  If you mess up once on your nutrition, “F***, the whole day is ruined.”  If you miss a workout, “Oh well, I’ll try again next week”  It’s important to remember that even though I’m talking about months in a year, fitness is a lifelong pursuit.  As long as you can stack up more wins in a year than losses, you come out on top. So I ask again, but differently.  How many wins do you have so far?

I don’t know if it’s well known or not, but I like to start working on goals over the summer.  One, I think it’s easier to set goals when it's warm and sunny versus cold and dark. Two, it’s easier to gauge where you are when you are physically active and wearing less clothes versus hibernating in sweaters and big cozy blankets. 


So my challenge to you this week is, 

If you train with us, set up a goal review.  Let one of us walk with you through your goals for the year and help you evaluate where you are and what comes next.
